All I know is that lithium-ion rocks! Did you know that the lithium-ion battery weighs 40% less which makes your work load easier? It is 30% more powerful and they do not suffer from memory effect. Lithium-ion has a 280% longer life time and it charges quicker as well. These batteries have revolutionized the power tool industry. The new white tools that Makita has introduced is even more compact they have half the battery cells which makes even more lighter but it doesn’t run as long. So it is your choice.
Milwaukee came out with a new Compact 12 volt. It weigh only 2 pounds but Milwaukee claim that is 25% more powerful, and faster than the competition. Bosch has a great deal on their 10.8 volt litheon pocket driver tools this Season. Buy one of their PS10-2, PS20-2, or PS 40-2 and get a free holster and a multipurpose power bit set.
My friends wife just loves the Makita New Makita TD020DSEW 7.2V Lithium-Ion Cordless Impact Driver Kit. She loves the fact that is lightweight and like a pencil. She thinks that the built-in LED job light is excellent for work efficiency.

To bad the Makita 18v lithium-ion batteries have a 65% failure rate at our shop within the first year. When the warranty is over we will be forced to buy new drills or change brands. I do not recommend the product because of this.

Hi Dave,
Makita is well aware of this and has made some improvements to the battery and chargers. If you bring your Makita lithium-ion battery and chargers to your nearest authorized repair center they should be able to exchange them for you.
